What is dutasteride?
- Dutsteride is a 5 alpha reductase inhibitory drug similar to finasteride.
- It is not FDA approved for hair loss but is sometimes used as an ‘off-label’ treatment for men with hair loss at a dose of 0.5 mg daily.
- Dutasteride is approved for hair loss in Korea.
- Women who are post menopausal and have the hair loss condition called frontal fibrosing aloepcia can sometimes be prescribed dutasteride. Only a physician knowledgable about this treatment should prescribe to women.
